A Letter from Kasey’s Sister Jessica

My sister’s name is Kasey and she is a 36 year old single mother of three. She was diagnosed with stage 2-3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in July of 2019, most likely stage 3 due to it spreading to surrounding lymph nodes and trying to spread to her lungs. 

She has a 14 year old son, Dakota, a 9 year old daughter, Josey, and an 8 month old son, Landin.

She was pregnant with her 3rd child and went in for a routine glucose checkup when the doctors noticed a cough. They ran a Xray on her to make sure she did not have any underlying sickness in her lungs, the scan showed a mass in her chest. The doctors performed one biopsy, which came back as inconclusive. So, they waited until after her son was born in June to do a second biopsy in July and confirm that it was Hodgkin’s. Once confirmed, they started chemotherapy in September, 12 rounds with possible radiation after. Kasey was responding wonderfully to the chemotherapy treatments at the halfway marker, her tumor had shrunk 75%. However, it has not continued to shrink at that rate; the cancer seems to be resisting the last few rounds of chemotherapy. We found out that she will have to have radiation after her last chemotherapy treatment, February 25. They want to started radiation as soon as possible to and are hopeful that it will take care of the remaining mass.

She is currently receiving treatments at Mary Bird Perkins. Chemotherapy just finished on February 25, we are scheduled to start radiation March 16.  She was working for Excel, but is currently on disability. Once treatments are done she is looking to find another job and get back out there.
